Infantile Obesity

EnglishSpanish
Appetite is controlled by the central nervous system and the hypothalamus. The area of appetite, localized in the cerebral cortex, is the one that excites or inhibits the hypothalamus. When the hypothalamus is excited, appetite is stimulated and food intake results.

When nutrients have been assimilated, they go into the blood. If food intake is not enough, the hypothalamus goes on being stimulated. If food intake is enough, satiation is felt and the hypothalamus is inhibited. The nutrients in the blood will be deposited: they first head towards the muscle so that it can perform its function of contracting, whereas the rest of the nutrients, which are unnecessary, will deposit in the adiposites in the form of triglycerides (see illustration).
